Cultural initiatives

Make room for what comes next.

A commission, a gathering or a place can create a new relationship with culture. New Renaissance develops initiatives around the artists, patrons and organizations able to give them meaning.

Inside New Renaissance: Malta

The possibilities

Ways an initiative can take shape

01

Commissions

New works developed through a dialogue between artistic practice, patron ambition and context. Each commission needs a clear brief and room for the artist’s judgment.

02

Salons and conversations

Considered gatherings that bring artists, patrons and cultural thinkers into conversation around a shared subject.

03

Place and hospitality

Collections and programmes that respond to architecture, local cultural life and the people who spend time in a place.

04

Patronage programmes

Sustained support for creative practice, research or presentation, shaped around clear responsibilities and a shared purpose.

What an engagement can include

From intention to something you can use.

A defined cultural purpose

A written brief setting out the question, the participants, the intended audience and why this particular form makes sense.

A programme and production plan

The proposed format, practical requirements, responsibilities, budget assumptions and decisions needed before announcing the work.

A record that can travel

An agreed approach to photographs, artist credits, project information and follow-up, with permissions confirmed for each use.

The specific deliverables, responsibilities, timing and commercial terms are agreed for your engagement before work begins.

Working together

Thoughtful at
every stage.

  1. Identify the purpose

Name the artistic or cultural question the initiative will address.

  2. Bring people together

Find alignment between the artist, the patron, the host and the intended audience.

  3. Set the conditions

Agree resources, permissions, schedule, responsibilities and how the work will be presented.

  4. Carry the work forward

Consider documentation, stewardship and the relationships that can continue after the initial programme.

Before we begin

A few useful answers.

Are these announced events?

These are areas of work, not an event calendar. Dates, participants and public access are shared when a specific programme is confirmed.

Can a private patron support an initiative?

Yes. Patronage can support the development or presentation of a work, a programme or an ongoing artistic practice.

How do I bring an initiative to New Renaissance?
